Artistic working method:

Turpeinen is a visual artist, who moves between the areas of design and contemporary art from the basis of material based knowledge. The central themes in Turpeinen´s artworks are memories, portraits and updated stories from the past. She is interested in the interplay between history and the contemporary, the way we can find our own identity in history. Often the starting points for her works are image archives of museums and communities, family photo albums or images of everyday life. With her art, Turpeinen is telling subjective stories from the past, which often relate to the way we observe our past or the cultural history around us.

During recent years she has developed a serigraphy technique where an image is printed and fired onto flat glass. Turpeinen is interested in rough surfaces, where the patina of time is left visible as a contrast to the industrial way of building. Lately Turpeinen has worked in combining metal, LED light and sheet glass with images. In her works, every glass sheet is a unique piece of art.
