Museum freak
Artist and researcher Outi Turpeinen is a Doctor of Arts, who defended her thesis for the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2005. Her research interests are mainly connected to practice-based research, cultural historical artifacts, museums and in particularly exhibition design. Her approach is interdisciplinary and includes artistic works together with visits to museums and theorethical readings. This approach is also developed in her teachings in Aalto University in Helsinki.
During 2004-2007 Turpeinen was one of the researchers in the Finnish Academy-funded research project SEFUN (Semiotic Product Functions). She also worked as a full-time employed researcher (suomeksi assistentin virka) 1999-2005 in the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Besides the research she was also organising research seminars, took part actively in the research community activities and evaluated Master’s theses. Turpeinen has for example seen over 130 museums internationally for her PhD. She has given lectures in museums, universities, seminars and conferences. She has also held art exhibitions in all major art museums in Finland.
